About this Site

Web Marketing Method is an attempt to document my knowledge of working in web marketing for some time now. While there’s heaps of information available about aspects of web marketing – mainly search engine optimisation (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM) and now social media – with this site I’m planning to take a step back to describe how these can be put together in an overall web marketing strategy, which can effectively contribute towards a specific set of marketing or business objectives.

The last sentence is where web marketing efforts regularly go wrong, the planning and strategy phase, beginning with no attempt to align the objectives of the web marketing strategy to the overall marketing or business strategy. For example, some aspects of web marketing should be included in every web strategy, such as search engine optimisation (SEO), but others can be considered to be channels, which should only be used if they can add value to the overall effort. Facebook and Twitter are driving forces behind the social media phenomenon currently, but before attempting to use these tools for marketing purposes it should be very clear how they can assist the business in achieving its goals. They will work for some web marketing strategies but not others, so despite their popularly they’re not necessarily essential tools that you’ll need in the kit.

The main part of this knowledge dump I’m planning to do in a chapter format, just like a book, and there will also be a blog function which logs ongoing updates and related examples and case studies.

If you’re reading this I hope you find it useful for what you’re doing and feel free to contact me to work out how you can get the most out of your web marketing efforts.
