About Me
I’ve been in Melbourne, Australia my entire life which is a great city even if I can never manage to explain why to people who aren’t from Melbourne. We have tennis and cricket in Summer, the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Autumn, Australian football in Winter and the horse racing carnival in Spring. So if you like sport you may be convinced but we also have world class festivals, restaurants and bars, beaches which aren’t too cold, and of course trams.
So after going through high school without having much idea of what I wanted to, in 1997 while the seeds of web marketing were being planted in the US I began learning about technology, communication networks and the internet at university. This led me towards making websites and I found it easy to get work making them for marketing purposes. I also found it much more fun working in marketing because it’s all about creating something that you want a lot of people to see, and then understanding how they interact with it – why create something if you don’t want a lot of people to see your work?
So I’ve officially been working in web marketing since 2000 and have had a great time along the way. While my time at university sent a lot of information my way it was not structured in a way that made sense to what I now do. So the knowledge I’ve built up along the way I’ll be trying to put into some kind of structure in this site and hopefully that’ll be of some use to others.
I don’t consider myself a “guru” of any kind but I’ve established processes which make successful outcomes the norm.
Along the way strategy is developed, decisions are made based on sound reason and I always welcome the opportunity to learn from others.
During my career I’ve had a few great jobs so far:
- From 2000 working at Swinburne University of Technology in the Web Managers Office and the Marketing department, all while I was studying.
- From 2003 working at Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) across marketing and IT development. In this job I had the great fortune of travelling with the Holden Racing Team (HRT) in the V8 Supercar series and being a part of the launch of the Z Series.
- Since 2006 I’ve again been working working in marketing back at Swinburne and in 2007 the department was restructured with greater resources being allocated to web marketing and marketing activities in general. I’ve since been part of a team which has won the McFarlane Prize for excellence in Australian web design and continue to work with some top agencies including DT Digital and M&C Saatchi.
