Our Lemon Squeezer

A while ago we had a day off from work, probably a public holiday, and we used it for a bit of R&R, not straying too far from the house and not getting up to much in particular. In the afternoon we had the TV on a local cooking show called Huey’s Cooking Adventures. Huey is a well known character in Australia, famous for his suspender braces, blatant product placement, free-pouring ingredients, and always putting a bit more in than you need just to make sure – particularly of the bad stuff.

I can’t remember what he was cooking up that day but it needed a lemon, and with no warning Huey pulled out an incredible device, like a quick draw from a holster, and he blasted that lemon into the bowl. My wife Rachel and I were dumbfounded! We love lemon and honey in tea to start the day and often use them in our cooking, except we always makes a mess and seemed to leave behind so much juice.

So we found out the device was known as a lemon squeezer or lemon press, and you simply cut your lemon in half, place it into this vice-like device and clamp down over a cup or bowl. The juice will squeeze out and the seeds and everything else will stay behind. Here’s a great video demonstration…

So straight after we instantly started searching online and in the stores and found they were difficult to come by at the time. We ended up buying a cheap one and after a while the paint started to peel which wasn’t great. We replaced it with a better quality squeezer and it’s lasted longer without any issues.

As well as the lemon squeezer you can also get lime squeezer or an orange squeezer, although you can use the lemon squeezer for limes as well – we’ve seen Huey do it!

If you’d like to know more about the lemon squeezer or tell us about your experience with it, leave us a comment below…
